Microsoft Solitaire Collection is a selection of legendary card games that have been available as part of the Windows OS. Now you can get this collection for free and enjoy playing them on your phone.
MSC stays true to its old-school roots. We have here the same laconic visuals that the legendary Solitaire used to have in the WinXP days. Only they got a bit sleeker with smoother card-dealing animations, transitions and sound fanfares.
What’s cool about MSC’s visuals is that you can customize them. There’s a repertoire of card deck designs, colorful backgrounds, and brassy effects to celebrate your triumphs.
Some of them charge a fee: about $3.5 for a deck of cards with kittens. At least, you can use one of your pictures as a background image. (It’s free).
MSC consists of five classic games:
- Pyramid. Put together two cards that add up to 13 to take them out.
- TriPeaks. Clear as many tables as possible until you spend all the deals.
- Klondike. Clearing cards from the table with the help of one/three-card draw.
- FreeCell. You get four extra cells — use them wisely while clearing the cards.
- Spider. You must cleat eight columns of cards. The fewer moves you use, the better.
You can choose a difficulty level: from Newbie to Expert. The bigger the challenge, the higher your rank in the game is. If you feel trained enough, you can join one of the special events.
For instance, in Tango for Two, you need to score as many points as possible. When the event is over, you’ll be awarded a position in the leaderboard. About 200 thousand people can partake in a single event at the same time.
The game is easy to control, as you mostly tap to manipulate the cards. There are no extravagant moves or tricks you must do to win, so it’s all okay.
Replay Value 4/5
MSC is an enjoyable way to kill 20 minutes or so. It’s plain, meditative and stress-free. And if you like these vintage card games, you’ll want another bite of them at some point. There’s a 100% guarantee about that.
If you enjoy relaxing games, Microsoft Solitaire Collection is a must-have. It has a soothing gameplay flow, appealing visuals, soulful card deck designs and leaderboards to compete on. If all that sounds charming — try MSC asap.
