Interface 3.5/5
Google Meet apk shares the overall style of other Google products, and while it’s easily recognizable and easy to use, we don’t really find it too impressive. The interface is slow and seems to be prone to annoying freezes, and some interface elements like buttons and windows feel cumbersome. All in all, the app is not comfortable to use, and while it’s alright to be used once in a while, we don’t recommend choosing it as your day-to-day video conferencing service.
Features 4/5
Google Meet offers a set of features that are rather typical for modern video conferencing apps. First of all, it includes unlimited video calls – they are encrypted to protect your privacy, but their quality isn’t perfect, and there are all kinds of problems you can encounter. The limit of participants per meeting is impressive, but the maximum of 250 users is going to freeze your device for sure, so it’s not that useful. You can also share your screen or add captions for your meeting, and there is a built-in tool that allows you to record a really important meeting to access it later.
Usability 3.5/5
While most of the time, this Google Meet app does its job alright, there are all sorts of issues that can arise for no tangible reason at all. The screen goes blank, some interface elements are overlapping, preventing you from tapping them, and random freezes happen all the time. We’ve tested the app on a couple of devices, and these problems have been more or less consistent. However, the app does not have any ads or hidden purchases, and it does not seem to risk your data.
Platforms 3/5
As you could expect, there is no Google Meet version for Apple devices, so if you’re using an iPhone, make sure to try some other video conferencing app – there are plenty of them, thankfully. However, if you’re using an Android phone, this Google Meet Android app can be found on just about every app store, including Google Play, of course.
Conclusion
Google Meet seems like an alright app – but it fails to compete with more successful apps like Zoom. But if you really need some extra security, Google Meet is something just for you.
